Sepahan Handed Trophy, Malavan and Naft Relegated

TEHRAN, June 22 (Mehr News Agency) – The curtain fell down on the second Iran Pro League (IPL) on Sunday and the yellow-clad Sepahan of Isfahan lifted the trophy at home.

In front of some 20,000 fans in Naqsh-e Jahan Stadium of Isfahan, Sepahan lost to visitor Pas 3-2 celebrating the title with 52 points.

 

Pas that badly needed a victory to finish runner-up was lucky enough to narrowly win Sepahan. The Isfahani side came close to equalizer in the 72nd minute but Moharram Navidkia hit a penalty kick against the post.

 

In a fans-free Takhti Stadium of Ahvaz, Persepolis hit two by Aref Mohammadvand from the penalty spot to beat the 8-man Foulad of Khuzestan 2-0 but Sepahan loss gave the reds the third place.

 

Winning 45 points, Pas ranked second and the first IPL champion Persepolis collected 44 points.

 

In other matches, Esteqlal of Tehran was beaten by the Shirazi team Fajr-e Sepassi 1-0 in Takhti Stadium of Tehran, Malavan of Bandar Anzali struggled against Esteqlal of Ahvaz to a nil-nil draw, San’at Naft beat Abu Moslem 3-1, Barq of Shiraz crushed Isfahan’s Zob Ahan 4-0, and Paykan defeated SAIPA.

 

Malavan and Naft were relegated to the first division.
